Common kitchen demolition problems

The problem.
How we solve it.

What makes kitchen tear-outs tricky, and how our crew handles each one.

01

Countertops that weigh a tonne

The problem

Stone and concrete countertops are extremely heavy and hard to remove without damaging what stays.

How we solve it

We plan for additional labour, controlled breakage or specialized handling, once sinks and cooktops are safely disconnected.

02

Gas, plumbing and wiring in the way

The problem

Stoves, sinks, dishwashers and islands are tied into gas, water and electrical systems.

How we solve it

A licensed gas fitter, electrician or plumber disconnects and makes them safe first. We do the demolition and debris removal, not regulated trade work.

03

Older materials that need testing

The problem

Drywall compound, vinyl flooring, adhesives and ceiling texture in older kitchens can contain hazardous materials.

How we solve it

Appropriate testing must be completed when required before suspect materials are disturbed. We start once the results and scope are clear.

04

Cabinets you want to keep

The problem

Some cabinets are worth reusing, but ordinary demolition isn’t gentle on them.

How we solve it

Tell us before quoting. Careful deconstruction takes more time and does not guarantee that every component comes out without damage.

05

Only part of the kitchen is changing

The problem

You want the cabinets or counters out, but the floor, walls and appliances must stay.

How we solve it

We do partial demolition, like cabinets only or countertops only, and review how it may affect nearby materials before we start.

06

A contractor schedule to keep

The problem

The renovation crew is booked, and the old kitchen has to be gone first.

How we solve it

We coordinate the demolition date with your construction schedule, subject to crew availability and site readiness.

FAQ

Good questions

Still unsure? Call or text 604-725-1092.

Do you offer Kitchen demolition in District of Kent?

Yes. District of Kent is part of our service area, including Harrison Mills, Harrison Highlands, Rockwell Drive, Hopyard Mountain and Striker’s Corner. Text a photo to 604-725-1092 for a price range.

How much does kitchen demolition cost?

Pricing depends on the kitchen size, number of cabinets, countertop material, backsplash, flooring, access, labour and disposal. Send photos for an initial estimate.

How long does kitchen demolition take?

Many standard non-structural kitchen tear-outs can be completed within one or two working days. Larger kitchens, tile floors, stone countertops and complicated access can require more time.

Can you remove a gas stove?

We can haul it away after a qualified gas fitter has disconnected it and made the gas connection safe.

Do I need a plumber or electrician?

Possibly. Plumbing, hardwired electrical equipment and gas connections must be safely disconnected before demolition.

Can you save the cabinets?

Careful deconstruction can be assessed, but it requires additional time and does not guarantee that every cabinet can be removed without damage.

Do you remove load-bearing walls?

Structural walls are not included in standard kitchen demolition. Structural changes may require engineering, permits and qualified contractors.

Is asbestos testing required?

Testing may be required when suspect materials will be disturbed. This is particularly important with older drywall, flooring, adhesives, insulation and textured finishes.
